Hi, I very very new to this and need directions (step by step). So I'm asking for your help.
I've done the download and have 2 .avi files.
(they have the MPEG purple tiangle in a yellow box symbol but nothing, including PowerDVD, will play it)
What's next.
I've not been lazy, I've been through several different sites looking at Guides, FAQ's, Links and other things.
I don't know if I've got Div or Divx or Xdvi.
Then there 5 or 6 different codecs
Can anyone point me to a site or page for absolute beginers, with simple plain english step by step guide. Thanks

Open each of the video in Virtualdub and go to File -> File Information. Post what you see on the box so that we can have a look and tell you what codec you need. :)

The videos are both DivX-compressed .AVIs, created with the DivX v.5.02 video codec. They both appear to contain Variable Bit Rate (VBR) MPEG Layer 3 (.MP3) audiostreams...

Download the divx 5.02 codec and install it. You should then be able to play the avi in windows mediaplayer.

Thanks for the help Mac Sidewinder that worked.
Sorry UncasMS, I was trying to veiw downloaded .avi files. The downloaded .avi's should have been the film Stuart Little 2.
But all that's on the .avi file (both of them) is a repeating trailer for "Enough" (38mins35secs of the same trailer)
Have I done something wrong or missed something?

menu. it sounds like you got a spoofed file. people from the MPAA are now uploading garbage files with names of movies, to try and discourage people from downloading them. (its quite frustrating to a user who spends several hours downloading a movie only to find its not what they want.) you probably have to just find a REAL copy of the movie on the net.

Fluffy. Thanks for the info. I remember reading something about these false movie files in the papers. Looks as if I found one straight away.
