Which settings in Nandubs SBC Settings is used in the first pass? I mean, which settings aren't allowed to be changed between the first and second pass?

I know all about that filters must be the same in the first and second pass.

you're not supposed to change anything between the two passes.

why would you want to do so?

of course you could change the desired file size or size/number of audio streams, since the analysis and its results of the movie will be stored in that log-file you might want to use for a second run of pass 2.
same goes for your resolution.

You are right on the filter settings having to remain unchanged for the first and second pass. As for the SBC settings, I believe you can change most of the parameters though I agree with UncasMS that you should finalise all settings before even commencing the first pass.

One of the guides (Domm9's or Nicky's) mentioned that one of the parameter should not be changed, though I can't remember which one it is. Personally, I wouldn't change the Luma correction and Scene Change (Tick Box) settings.

The reason why I posted this question is that I want test different settings for SBC in Nandub to get the best result for a movie. It would be timeconsuming to do a first and a second pass for every change in the settings. So am I getting it right that I can change everything except resolution and other filters?

You will find that changing most of the settings there does not necessarily equate to a very noticable change in video quality. Worth trying on are the curve compressions and gauge values, though.

moreover it might be a good idea to simply use one vob file to run this test or even less by selecting the very part you want to have compressed in dvd2avi

this way you're on the safe side (making 2 passes all the time) and you wont spend days on your test.

I have tested to use just a 40 sec of film with first and second pass to test settings on. I can tell that the result was really ugly, much uglier than if I did a whole first pass and then tested different settings.

But it seems like some sbc settings must remain the same between the passes, because after I decided to use specific settings and encoded the whole movie, the result was undersized.

So it would be great if someone could tell which settings I can't touch between the passes. One solution is to do a whole first pass, test different settings, do another first pass with the desired settings and then finally do a whole second pass.
