i feel pretty stupid for asking this question but does it matter how good your video card is when you are making the actual divx file. I know that it will make a difference when u watch the movie, but will i get better movies if i get a more expensive video card i have a ge force mx 420 and its pretty bad. I was just wondering this thanks.

I personally doubt it. The video card will only act as a dumb frame buffer in the case of encoding and decoding DivX videos. Either case, just make sure that the video card is reasonably up-to-date so as to be able to display the videos (I'm talking about video memory of at least 8MB and above).

You're welcome.

I had the same thought back then when I upgraded from my MX2 card to a Radeon. Apparently, the new card only helped in games and DVD viewing. Nothing changed with DivX, apart from the nicer overall desktop crispness. :)
