I have DivXed a few DVD's that were in wide screen, but I did them in 4:3 by mistake.
Is there software player that can force the picture into new dimensions, to avoid having to re-rip them?
The current picture, all the pictures are really long and thin, it's watchable, but quite annoying, what can I do?

Cheers.

1. Load the file into Virtual/nandub
2. Set Video tab to Full Processing Mode and Audio tab to Direct Stream Copy
3. Under Video tab, go to Filters and select the Resize filter. Input the desired new resolution (with the correct AR). I recommend Bicubic mode.
4. Configure the codec settings under the video tab
5. Go to File -> Save as AVI and give a name to the new file

Edit: This thread (http://forum.digital-digest.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=5021) has an alternative for you.

Yo Enchanter, would it be possible to use the same process to resize the format of a few svcd mpg's i have that i dont like the format, or would that mess up the svcd?

I don't foresee any problems, unless you are creating SVCDs.

"I don't foresee any problems, unless you are creating SVCDs" Well, i am trying to create an svcd:) So what do you think would be the problem?

(S)VCDs use fixed resolutions, so changing them is not a wise idea (I imagine the resultant video will not play, OR the burner will refuse to proceed with the SVCD creation).

"would it be possible to use the same process to resize the format of a few svcd mpg's?"

Nope - VDub won't accept MPEG2/MPEG2-SuperVideoCD format for input...

So then, since that wouldnt let me make a good svcd, would that also apply to the making of a vcd? Just making sure...

VirtualDub WILL accept MPEG1/MPEG1-VideoCD for input - but the output will ALWAYS be .AVI...

"But I'm talking about changing the aspect ratio of an .avi file in TMPGenc"

After you've loade dthe .AVI into TMPGEnc, click on the "Advanced" tab and choose the aspect settings you prefer - and do likewise by clicking on the "Video" tab...

why not just tell the guy waht he wants to hear?

i had the smae problem m8

open The DivX Playa, and as the video is playing, right click on the video, go to Change Playback Ratio (or something like that ) and choose Wide Aspect (16:9)

there ya go sorted. no re-encoding or no stuff like that
