I downloaded LOTR divx parts 1 and 2. I have just got a new computer, downloaded Divx and Playa but no joy on playback.
The movie can be previewed in WMP and is okay.
Any ideas regarding codec needed or should I just download another version.
Comments welcome please.
Thanks

If the movie indeed does work in windows media player, but not "tha playa", then either try getting another version of the software, or install a codec pack. Try "NimoCodec Pack", it has all the codecs you need for most programs.

Thx I already did that after reading a few posts in the forum. Still no joy. The file does not work in WMP only when you preview it in the properties section

In order to determine which codec(s) you need for a particular .AVI, you should do the following:

1) Load the file into VirtualDub

2) From the "File" dropdown menu, select "File Information"

3) Post (here) EVERYTHING you see (both video and audio information), or post a screen capture .jpg of the information box

I haven't got the hang fo the screen capture but could do with a few tips as I don't fancy typing all that info out.

Thx in advance

GSPOT might help you recognise the codec used for the file

It appears that you have to download and install the DivX v.3.11alpha codec in order to view the video. Additionally, if you haven't been able to hear the audio, download and install the Radium (Fraunhoefer) .MP3 codec...

Thx,

The 3.1 was the first one I tried. No joy I'm afraid.

G Spot states that the codec is 3 however in the direct render states that there is no combination of filters.

I think I downloaded myself a puppy ..thanks for the help anyway guys.
