ripping a dvd

im trying to rip a dvd and it tells me that it cant play the dvd on my computer. I am trying to play it in order to unlock the vob files. What will happen if i dont play the dvd, but just start ripping with smart ripper will it still work

1) Are you having this problem with one SPECIFIC DVD or with ANY and ALL DVDs?

2) Is the DVD of the correct region?

3) Try ripping it with DVD Decrypter (even though the DVD won't play)

1 it is all dvds that i am trying

2 they have came from the same area that i always get my dvds
