I would like to know if it's possible to put subtitles into a complete divx file - A file that is already done that is.

If there's no way, maybe you know of a plugin or a program that displays subtitles seperatly? Hmmm..?

You can use DirectVobSub (or SubMux/VobSub filters to add permanent subs) included in the VobSub package.

What format do the subtitle files be. srt, ssa, .....?

That depends on the prog used to create subs.
The extension and format changes (obviously) from prog to prog, but most of them can be viewed (not played) with notepad or similar.

.srt--->SubRip
.ssa-->SubStationAlpha
.sub-->MicroDVD (and VobSub)
to name a few.

That's not what I meant. Can Vobsub rip all these formats into a DivX. Or only *.srt files, for example.

Sorry.I misread yor post.

That again depends on the VobSub prog you are using.

DierectVobSub adds subs in WMP
SubMux mux the movie and sub so you don't need a sub file
The other progs included in the VobSub package is VDub filters.
Here you will have to reencode the movie, to get permanent subs.

Open any of the VobSub progs above, and you will quickly find out what kind of subs you can use.

I'm using Vobsub as a temporary solutions till I figure out what's wrong whit the submux. I only get a 440kb avi file after muxing

i got this question: if i download a movie with functional subtitles. for instance *.sub. If i burn all the files on a cd, will the subtitles work on a stationer dvdplayer? will the player be able to play the movie with the subtitles?

Since you're having probs with SubMux, I suggest you try AVISubtitles (needs re-compressing)http://hjrsoft.cjb.net/

Or doing it the "hard" way by re-compressing with subfilter in VDub (if you're already encoded the movie).

I already encoded the movie but with VDub I get huge files.

Doesn't matter anymore AVISubtitles works fine. Thx for the help
