ok here's the deal. i'm trying to burn a moive onto a vcd to be played in my dvd player.

the movie is a .avi

i have followed the instructions found here: http://www.divx-digest.com/articles/avi2mpeg1.html

and i am using nero 5.5 demo.

basically i started the burn about an hour ago and it hasn't even got to 50% done encoding. my question is, is this normal???

my pc specs are good and i can't figure out why its taking so long.

i also was wondering if i got the full version would the encoding go faster???

here's my specs:
p4 1.6a @ 2.1ghz (533fsb)
512mb cas 2 ddr400
western digital 8mb cache 80gig drive
lite-on 40x burner
radeon 9700 pro

ok so looking at the guide it tells you to convert the movie with Nero. I dont like using nero to convert Divx. I would use TMPGEnc to convert the avi file to Divx. This is a much better way to convert. I have never goten nero to convert anything. all you have to do when you have the mpeg file is drop it into the VCd screen in Nero. and it just puts it in .vob form. the TMPGEnc conversion should take about as long as the video file

I'm sure Deus meant "convert .AVI to MPEG1-VideoCD"...

OK, correct me if I am wrong (probably Setarip will :P) but can the avi not be converted using TMPGenc and then use Nero to burn newly-formed MPEG1 file(s)?

(According to Setarip's message at --> http://forum.digital-digest.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=14549)

I dont know, maybe I am wrong...but it seems this way.

You are correct - as long as you use "MPEG1-VideoCD" (NOT simply "MPEG1") as the mode in TMPGEnc...
