Illegal operation in Windows Media Player when playing movies using AC3-codek

The topic sais it all...

I have looked at most stuff too.. I've reinstalled the codek (those AC3-codeks that's included in ACEMCP).. I know it's the AC3-codek and nothing else couse there is no illegal operation when the codek isn't installed.

Try another player, like BSPlayer or PowerDivX. In addition to that, you could try uninstalling your current AC3 codec and give other AC3 codecs a try.

The weird thing is that it worked on my old computer, and I've even tried to use the old soundcard, but it didn't help though..

Any suggestions? Recommendations?

PowerDVD (Cyberlink) decoder along with MMSwitch.ax (Morgan Stream Switcher) installed work well with my system. But then again, I've never had any problems like yours, so it might not work for you.

Is it possible that your soundcard is incapable of supporting 48KHz (that would mean a close-to ancient soundcard)? If necessary, try reinstalling your soundcard driver and DirectX.

You've made several comments which, when put together, bring rise to the following:

1) "It worked before" - On the same computer, or one you previously used? (Sacrasm such as, "We're talking Windows", dioesn't provide any insight)

2) "Illegal operation" - This is not a message that Windows would typically generate if a codec is not properly installed.

3) If you are using the same computer on which "it worked before", have you recently installed or changed any software?

Several tboughts come to mind, based on your several comments:

1) "It worked before!" - On the same machine, or only on your "old computer"? (Sarcasm, such as, "Hey...we're talking about Windows here." isn't going to help you resolve anything)

2) A problem codec shoyuld not generate an "illegal operation" error message. What version of Windows Media Player are you using? What O/S are you now running?

But what annoys me the most is that it's just AC3-sound that doesn't work - normal MP3 or WMA works fine!

If I uninstall the codek, the movie plays fine (but I don't got any sound though).

I've tried another sound card, but it didn't help.

I bought a computer with the same parts for my GF, we got the same problem.

But I don't see why this should be a hardware problem. I'm gonna look around and see if I can find any other codeks.. (But the weird thing is that it worked on my old computer, with the same codek)

Windows Media Player 7.01.00.3055

This haven't changed since the old computer..

I had a similar problem, which was solved bu using the AC3 filter.

hi,

has this problem been resolved? i'm curious to know the solution... i was once able to play an XVid/AC3 file on my old laptop. with the new laptop... WMP 7.1 crashes when the AC3 decoded from Nimo pack is installed... WMP 7.1 plays video but no sound when AC3 is not installed... WMP 7.1 plays video and audio when the audio filters from doom9.org is installed, but sounds like it's in fast forward mode...

any suggestions?

I've fixed the problem!

I downloaded the newest version of the program from sourceforge.net! (AC3 Filter)

Nice Playback now! :D
