HP will be releasing a new DVD+ writer drive soon, the dvd300i (dvd300e is the external version).

The specs, as published on CDRLabs.com :

DVD+R Write: 4x, 2.4x
DVD+RW Write: 2.4x
CD-R Write: Up to 16x
CD-RW Write: Up to 10x
DVD+RW/+R/DVD-ROM Read: 8x Max
CD-R/CD-ROM Read: 40x Max
Writing Methods: Track at Once, Disc at Once, Incremental Fixed and Variable Packet Writing
Buffer Size: 2MB with buffer underrun technology

Looking at the specs, the CD-R writing speed is a tad low IMO (should be 24x, at least). 8x DVD-ROM read is average, since other drives can read at 10-12x. Don't know much about the DVD-Video transfer speed, probably 2x, which will make DVD ripping a real pain.

At this point, with 4x DVD+R writing, the DVD+Plus standard again has the speed advantage over DVD-Minus.
