convert .wmv to .avi??

May be a stupid question, but does anyone know if there is an app out there that will convert Windows Media Player files to avi files, if so what it is?

Have you ever converted wmv to avi? Do you have any experience with quality vs file size between the two (wmv and divx avi) files? I'm relatively inexperience, but i'd imagine divx 5 would have greater quality with a smaller file size than wmv. ....but I could be wrong
