Avi-Vcd Conversion Trouble

I am having trouble converting avi to vcd. I use tmpgenc and at about 50% the whole video turns black and there is no sound.

I've also tried converting and then buring it with nero but at about 50% again it say there is an error(u know the annoying send/don't send one in XP).

Have you successfully played the original .AVI all the way from beginning to end?

If so, load the file into either VirtualDub or NanDub
Set both "Video" and "Audio" to "Direct Stream Copy"
Save with a new filename
Use this new file with TMPGEnc

Yes i watched it all the way through and there was no probs.

I've alredy cut it if that will affect it in any way. I tried wat u told me and it still turns black at about 50%.
