MPG to DivX conversion (newbie)

Please help on how to convert MPG movies into DivX.
What can I expect as compression ratio?

(Assuming you have a DivX codec installed)

For MPEG1 files, you can use VirtualDub, or Flask (or similar), or MPEG Mediator, or GordianKnot

For MPEG2 files, you can use Flask (or similar), or MPEG Mediator, or GordianKnot - or VirtualDubMod (change file extender to .VOB)

Hi, I converted a mpg(mpeg1) movie of a size of 331MB to 25MB, using virtual dub and keeping the same ratio and overal size of the picture, this should give to some indication on the compression ratio(always chages a little)

It's very simple :) you can also use nandub, better control, but virtualdub is good too.

you need a bitrate calc as well, to determine the bitrate to use for the DIVX codec (assuming ur using the best version - 3.11alpha)
