There is no such thing as the best bitrate. You input the appropriate bitrate so that you can achieve the desired filesize.

In order to achieve maximum quality for a given bitrate, you should use 2-pass mode encoding. For DivX 3.11, that means using nandub. For DivX 5.03, 2-pass encoding mode can be used in almost any encoders you care to name. However, in the case of tailor-suiting the codec for either fast- or low-motion movies, perhaps you could give its new bitrate modulation feature a whirl.

And what are the reasons for that?

Then DivX 5.03 will override the older installation of DivX 4. The former is basically an upgraded version of the latter.

It won't. As a matter of fact, DivX 5.03 will automatically take over playback tasks of DivX 3.11 files. This may be fine to the average users, but a lot of others (including me) prefer having DivX 3.11 to decode these files. Hence the need to use Tsunami-patched DivX 3.11 codec.

You have obviously not read my response to your initial post properly . . .

Use a bitrate calculator to determine what bitrate to use.

A better idea would be for you to give GordianKnot a try. A guide for using it is available on this forum, courtesy of UncasMS.

well said Enchanter, u took words from my mouth.

I downloaded Fast and the Furious - good movie, and good quality, DVD quality on VCD played on my DVD player :D:D:D:D

anyway, use nandub for 2pass encoding, look at my site/uncasms, but prefered to use DIVX 3.11alpha! :)

History repeats itself, huh? Remember when I said, "Now who is stealing whose idea?". . .
