I have just started to backup my dvd`s using dvd decryptor, ifoedit and recordnow. I am having good success but i now want to be able to keep the main menu of movies. I don`t want the extras or owt like that but it would be nice to be able to keep the movie menu. I see that Ifoedit has a menu extra`s button but i don`t understand how you use it. Please make any replys understandable. Please Help..

Usually the menu is in video_ts.vob and the vts_xx_0.vob of the movie title-set.
In those simple cases you just have to copy those .vob files in the new VIDEO_TS-folder that you want to burn.
Don't forget the 'Get VTS-Sectors' Button.
You can test it with the dvd-play button in ifoedit, if you open the video_ts.ifo.
The menu extra button allows you to strip out selected Menu-ID's, which you don't want to keep.

Didn`t Work. I think i did it right. I put my movie in, let dvd decryptor pick the main movie files, run ifoedit, get vob extra`s, get vts sectors and it`s done. You then say i need to get the menu files and copy to my video ts folder and not to forget get the vts sectors??? so should i ifoedit before i put the menu files in or after, if after what file do i ifoedit.... This is getting really confusing when all i want to do is backup my movies... HELP ME !

I dont' use DVD Decryptor, that could be the problem.
A simple way is to do a complete backup of the dvd, I use Smartripper to do the job.
Then you can choose freely, what parts of the dvd you want to keep.
With Ifoedit you can identify which titlesets (vts_xx_y.vob 'xx' is the title) you need to play the movie with the menu. After 'DVD Play' ifoedit tells you which Titlesets were used.
Now you copy those files to your new folder, which you want to burn.
Example:
There are the files
Video_ts.*
Vts_01_*.*
Vts_02_*.*
Vts_03_*.*
Vts_04_*.*
Let's say ifoedit uses the titles 2 and 4 to play the movie.
Now copy the files
Video_ts.*
Vts_02_*.*
Vts_04_*.*
to your new folder.
To keep the structure also copy only the .ifo and .bup of Vts_01_*.* and Vts_03_*.*
After doing that use Get vts sectors button and the 'dvd' in your new folder should be playable.
If the resulting folder is to large to burn, you have the option to strip out unwanted streams (audio/subtitle) with ifoedit vob extras.
Good luck.

Arrgghhhhhhhhh
Still no good mungo. I managed to get it to work by following your instructions but the film was too big. So i ran it through IFOEDIT and the film lost it`s menu. I then went and copied the files you mentioned back to the new directory but still no good even after getting VTS sectors. It started to load but then came up with a navigation error. Do you have a descent step by step guide as i can`t find one. Also is there a setting in ifoedit that allows you to have a bigger screen size and not letterbox?? By the way used smartripper and no difference. HELP !!

"I managed to get it to work by following your instructions but the film was too big. "
Do I understand corrcectly that the dvd worked after the copying including the menu and the only problem is the size of the folder?
If so, then you're almost there.
Sorry for the step-by-step guide but I don't have one.
All you have to do is to strip out unwanted streams with ifoedit.
You do that by opening the vts_xx_0.ifo of your movie-titleset.
Now you can strip out the streams with the vob-extras button.
More details and screenshots should be available in the guides on digital-digest.
The important point is that you save the resulting files in a new folder. After ifoedit has finished the task copy the files back to the other folder, which you already tested.
Now the size should be reduced and the menu-vobs should still be there. After 'get vts-sectors' the dvd (in ifoedit with dvd play - button) should play without problem and you can burn it.
If the folder is still too large, you can reencode the movie with a lower bitrate which takes a lot of time and knowledge I don't have, others in the forum should be able to help you with that.
I don't know how the screensize can be changed in ifoedit.
Good luck for the next try.

hi i hope i can help
well first of all i usually use smartripper to backup the dvd on hd.
then look if the dvd fits on a dvd or reencode if not.
if this is done just remove the original vobs with the ones you downsized.
you now have a video_ts folder with the original dvd files structure except the vobs which you reencoded right?
next step is to run the ifoedit vob extras point on all vob.ifos you reencoded (downsized), usually Vts_01_0.ifo etc.....
then ifoedit says finished correcting vbu pointers or something like that. now save the .ifos you have changed by pressing save and clicking yes on the follwing popup windows( bup will be saved as well, bla bla bla)
after doing vob extras on each ifo you downsized the vobs, you should exit ifoedit and restart again ifoedit, donŽt know exactly why.
restart ifoedit, open Video_ts.ifo and get Vts sectors.
ifoedit will change some ifos and also the Video_ts.
after ifoedit is finished you have to look at the upper window of ifoedit, and youŽll see which ifos, Video_ts, etc. ifoedit changed by pressing get Vts sectors.
it is important that u now save all those ifos, and the video_ts by pressing save for each of them.
voila restart ifoedit again, open the Video_ts file again and try playback in ifoedit.
hope this helps...

You might also try DVD95COPY program DVD95COPY (http://www.dvd95copy.com) Take a look. Their offering allows the extras, and menu to be compressed and keeps the movie less compressed for fitting onto a DVD5 video.:D I use it all the time! Very good video quality too!

Hey Vernon,
Dvd95Copy?? I have just tried this on Majestic and it was wicked. I then did Road To Perdition and it didn`t work, not on PC, Dvd or X-Box. Does this program only do certain films or what??
A somewhat confused person??
I am using x4 media on a Pioneer 105 and at Ł2 a disk i feel a bit reluctant to try this program again??

I've got "Road to Perdition" here I did on DVD95COPY. Turned out great. There is a new update 1.2.4 that is available for registered users. I've not run across a movie that it doesn't do yet. Now it's even better in it's selection.
Their forum site DVD95COPY FORUM (http://http--www.dvd-backup.net) also has some news and updates.
Perhaps it was the way it was burned? I use Nero 5.5.10.15a version.:D

What version of DVD95Copy are you using?
vljenewein
19 Mar 2003, 01:08 PM
I am using the 1.2.4 version now, but Road to Perdition was done I believe with the 1.2.2 version of DVD95COPY. I just did Gladiator with Russell Crowe and does great. Plays the menus in the beginning and I can jump to different chapter just like on our original.
I did "Spy Kids 2" for our daughter, as her ORIGINAL would not play on her computer... seems it had a problem with the encryption. so....
I ripped the whole movie with DVD Decrypter FILE mode, then used DVD95COPY to create a folder c:\SPYKIDS2_BURN\VIDEO_TS\ and put pointer to there for the destination.. then used Nero to burn. She now plays her movie, AND extras on her computer where she was unable to before because of the encryption and such. How about that??!!!
:D
Also I am using a CenDyne (Pioneer) DVR-105 model burner -R and using Ritek 4X media.. it cost me $2.00 each and I could have gotten it cheaper, if I wanted to buy a 50 or 100 pack. Best advice I can give is to use GOOD quality media.. NEVER has it been so important as in DVD backup!! I use the lates Nero update and Adaptec's ASPI layer 4.71.2 that I downloaded from their website, also.

Instant Copy is better, but if you rather have the exact image with the exact Menus, then your best bet is to split it into 2 discs and retain all extras, etc...
DVD95COPY & Instant Copy will get you a big video quality loss in the pictures....hope this explain a little more in detail

"I am using version 1.1"
In view of the fact that registered owners , who have purchased this commercial software, automatically receive updates via email (now up to v.1.2.4), I can only assume that your problem lies with the fact that you are using an outdated WAREZ version of DVD95Copy...
Mexman
19 Mar 2003, 07:58 PM
Hey m8
The version i got was off Kazaa and it did not ask me to register so yes i assume it is a warez copy. I wanted to try this before i did anything else as i have been burnt by this before. I have bought loads of software with the promise that it does something and when you get it it is rubbish, so i will not do that anymore. And despite all the good reports on Dvd95Copy what i have seen so far is not good, 2 disks backed up, 1 good, 1 coaster.....:vbouncy:

19 Mar 2003, 10:35 PM
There have been fixes and improvements since ver 1.1 How can you evaluate it off the 1 good one coaster thing if you don't have a current copy? If it were not for the fact that you get your money back if you don't like it, I might not have bought it, but I did.. and I am not asking for my money back! And I also own DVD2ONE too, so I'm sort of doubling up as they say.
If I made some red wine with lots of tannins in it, and let someone taste it when it was new and young they probably wouldn't ever buy any of my wine...but let it age a bit and softer the tannins and improve and it's very good. The same would be true of Chateau Lafitte Rothchild Premier Gran Cru wine. In it's infancy no one would think much of it, but see how much it command in price once it has settled down and matured!

Well Vernon,
Your either far too intelligent for your own good or just a boring git .... Lol ...... No offence.
I see where you are coming from but like i say once bitten and all. I probably will go ahead and buy it but at the mo i am looking at all my options before i make a decision.
Thx for your input even if it was a crock as i know nothing about wine so i made no sense.... Sorry.
vljenewein
20 Mar 2003, 11:28 AM
My analogy with the wine is that DVD95COPY, like wine when new, is a bit rough around the edges. Let it mature a bit, fix a few oversight bugs, improve upon it a bit from user and imput and the test of time and it will be a wonderful program, and it is well on it's way.
Oftentimes in life you get what you pay for and this little program is defenitely worth the money to have a righteous copy.

20 Mar 2003, 08:18 PM
Well Vernon
Thx for the input. I cannot evaluate the copy i have because i have now done 6 films with it, 3 good and 3 coasters so i either risk everyone praises and buy it or look for another solution. I think i am gonna end up buying it to be truthfull with you.
Thx again....

hey vljenewein when the old man said theres gold in dem dar hills knowone listened. we keep trying to say theres a better way than trying to use this prog and that prog and still not getting the hole movie, this prog just works 15 movies no costers
i used ver. 1.1 thur 1.24. if your system can handle the data transfer u shouldn't make costers
know what i mean vern!!!!

Yep, onerose from same state:D I know what you mean!
I am running a Maxtor 80GB hard drive and it is partitioned into believe it.. 5 different slices. I even have Linux and Windows ME on this hard drive. well.. my RAM is DDR at 768 Mb. I have seen people poke around using 256 or even less and wonder why this program don't work I have also seen them use earlier versions of Nero burning software and complaing that this software don't work.. won't play in their DVD machines. ahh :smashead:
I have no problems whatsoever with this or DVD2ONE. I use them both, and commend both authors. If you have a system that is nearly full with little swap space, then you might have some problems.. if you are running underpowered in the CPU or CPU cooling then you might run into problems.. word is might, not "gonna" or such.
The way I look at it, if the program this or any other, works on the majority of computers out there and it's crashing on your computer.. then I think you have set something wrong, or are asking more than your system can handle.. :D

Well guys i`m afraid i disagree, I have a 2200XP, 1gb Kingston Ram, 80gb and a 120gb Western Digital 7200rpm hard drives with 8mb cache and still i only get a 50% success rate with Dvd95Copy. Dvd2One is 100% at the moment. This is why i am looking at all the avenues before deciding. All the settings in Dvd95Copy is set okay so ???
Dunno
Dvd2One is the kiddy but does not keep the menu`s, Dvd95Copy is the daddy but only 50% success for me??

Just as a point of information:
To date I've successfully duplicated 31 of my DVDs using DVD95Copy.
The only problem I've run into is the program's inability to process and convert Bourne Identity (It generates a 'failed" error message regarding the "Video Manager" - Video_ts.vob). I've communicated with the author regarding this problem. He hopes to have it resolved shortly...

Maybe if you bought the 'real' copy and not use the free warez copy you got from Kazaa and then got the updates your success rate might go up a bit more.;) I've had nothing but successes with this program!

Well Folks,
A man is not a man unless he can hold his hands up an say i was wrong, and i was. I tried to go around all the houses when all i needed to do was knock on the door and someone would have let me in, i hold my head in shame.
I bought Dvd95Copy and as someone said i received the 1.3 update by mail and voila, no more beer mats. I was suprised to see the comments on their forum about sharing the software with a friend, very generous i thought.
Apologies for all the sceptical comments before, i should have trusted you all.
