I know, you have heard that question several times, but who wanna explain me once for all, witch Xvid codec there are the most stabile and will work with WMP series 9, because all recent Xvid codecs i have downloaded wont work with WMP 9 at my homesystem but do i analyze them in VirtualDub or Nandub, so is there a picture and the stream works fine, but still no sound however.
What can i poor man do, HEEELP!!!!

Don't use WMP9, opt for wmp 6.4 or BSPLAYER instead.

I guess it all depends on what pc with what codecs/configuration you have. XviD's work fine with WMP9 on my system.

Batman,
You seems to be an expert but I'm a novice who is trying to learn how to play some of the movies that I "got". I'm using WMP 9 but some of the Xvid files will not play. The video is distorted (picture is delay) but audio sounds perfect. Every once a while the video catchs up (only for a second) and it looks perfectly clear. I've downloaded all kinds of codecs for xvid but nothing seems to work for me. Please give me some directions. Thanks for the help.

As I suggested earlier, try playing the xvid files in BSPLAYER, and if you have the NIMO CODEC PACK installed, uninstall it.

Batman,
I just installed bsplayer but the screen seems to freeze and color is still distorted. I'll uninstall nimo now, but will that solve the problems?
thanks

If you search this forum for "nimo codec pack" you'll see many problems. I would definately recommend you first uninstall the nimo cdoec pack.

You just have to install this Codec : Koepi's 04102002
Can be downloaded from:
http://www.dawnload.net/video_softw...id.cfm#download
or
http://www.roeder.goe.net/~koepi/xvid.shtml
With kind regards
Jan
By the way BSplayer didn't work untill after I installed this codec. So BS is what BS normally stands for.

Although your probably know this or should know this, no player be it WMP series, BSPLAYER, or ZOOMEPLAYER will work without the appropriate playback codecs installed.
NIMO codec pack is known to cause xvid playback problems. BSPLAYER can resolve many of the problems associated with xvid playback, provided you have the xvid or ffdshow codec installed.

I have played around with alot of different codecs and evene though I'm only a novice in this I've got good result with that codec.
I can also recomend recording in Windows movie maker. I got Independence Day down to 233MB. That is the full movie copied from VHS to the pc. Taken in mind that it was from VHS it was allmost DVD quality.
Hardware used:
AMD Athlon 1300Mhz,
ECS K7s5a w/lan PCB: 3.1
256Mb SDRam PC133
Terratec Tv value (don't use the SW that comes with it, use Moviemaker).

Yeah i have told you i got my Xvid going, but now i have encountered a new problem, now cant i playback my Divx files, the picture changes fast between two frames instantly in Bsplayer and in WMP and others it only shows the first frame and then freeze, but the sound continues to play.
First info i could provide is im driving the SLD Codec Pack 1.3, and in running Divx v. 5.02.
Someone with a golden advice what i can do to solve that problem???

Are you using the Divx 5.02 codec or FFDSHOW playback filter for divx playback?

I am using the Divx 5.02 playbackfilter ( i think), im at work right now but i will do some investigation when im home this evening.
So i will return later with more info, i can take a screendump from Gspot tonight, and post it here around 21:00 (CET) hrs here.

I have now formatted my PC totally douring the weekend and started all over again and installed things i got working before the format of my PC.
And now i have reached a solution i can live with:
BSplasyer will Playback XVID Movies with sound and everything
Windows Medie Player 9 Will playback DivX allso with sound.
But WMP 9 refuses to play Xvid and BSplayer refuses to play DivX, what can cause that situation????

Do you ffdshow installed or the divx 5.02 playback filter? What error does BSPLAYER produce when you try to play divx.

I have the 5.02 filter witch comes vith the SLD codec pack v. 1.3 and when im trying to playback a DivxMovie in BSplayer shows it 5-15 frames and then freezes between 2 frames for several seconds and then it moves to an other frame and shows 5-15 more and makes the same stunt.
And all program like Gspot says there should be no problems, witch i dont understand when my picture looks as it does.
But im trying to install the Tsunami pack 3_9_7 later today in case that could solve my problems.

Uninstall the SLD CODEC PACK, and from the TSUNAMI CODEC PACK conduct a custom install, installing on the codecs you actually need.

Seeing how highly ppl in here are talking about bsplayer, I downloaded it. Now, where exactly do I download the XviD codec from? I'm only interested in playback. Thanks

I downloaded and used ffdshow for viewing the Xvid file. Now, I'm having trouble opening a div3 formatted file. Time for another search!

having brightness/contrast problems when playing videos (especially Xvid).....very dark.....have tried to correct this in the color config in PowerDVD but the options are greyed out......anyone know any way of either solving this within XP or enabling the color control within PowerDVD.....
Thanks.
I use the old windows media player, and lately the nimo codec pack hasnt been working on a lot of media files, and i refuse to update the player cause i just hate the newer version. I have never tried BSplayer but i use Video Lan when files wont work and so far it seems to play everything.
try it out. you dont need any codecs at all

Hi All :
I have a file that can be seen with WMP9, but BSPlayer only plays sound without video. Screen keeps black. This movie is coded with XviD codec.

OMG, how many times do we have to tell you NOT to use WMP 9.0...?!!! If you insist on using that crappy UPS (Useless-Piece of-Software), plz approach the MS helpdesk for assistance.
