Divx & AC3 Audio with FlaskMpeg

Hi All

Just a bit confused with Ac3 audio?

I have ripped the dvd with the AC3 Audio to hard drive.
When using flaskmpeg and in the audio mode selecting 'decode audio' option and setting the sampling rate as 48000Hz and checking 'same as input box'

I also setup the audio as PCM 48000Hz 16 Bit stereo, 196Khz

My question is: Does this decode the audio as 5.1 Dolby Digital ?

I have read heaps of files in regards to putting the audio in programs to get the true 5.1 Dolby Digital. But, I believe that they are for Ac3 2.0 which basically compresses a bit more & saves file space on the hard drive?

I don't care too much for hard drive space as long as I have the best quaility video and also the best sound.
(which is roughly around 1.3 Gb on the DVD's I've ripped so far)

Any methods & help would be gratefull!!

This will prevent you from obtaining an AC3 audio stream. You'll end up with a (multiplexed with the video) PCM (Uncompressed WAV) audio.

Change the audio mode to "Direct Stream Copy", go to the "Files" tab and select where you want this SEPARATE .AC3 audio file to be created.

Understand, that as a consequence, you'll have created a silent .AVI and a separate .AC3 audio file - which can be multiplexed using the specially modified version of VirtualDub (VirtualDub 1.4C_AC3).

I fully understand now and made myself a nice divx with 5.1 sound using Virtual Dub ac3 and interleave option of 1 ms and a delay audio of 0 of 373ms

It worked well. :)

By the way, those are "interesting" settings that you used. May I ask how you arrived at them?

Intriguing. I'll have to try these settings on my next "conversion excursion".

I was hoping that the author might have offered an explanation as to why these particular settings are being used - primarily because I've had great success using the settings suggested by UncasM (hope I got that right), one of the moderators here.

His recommended settings are:

For 192Kbps Preload & Interleave 80 ms

For 384Kbps Preload & Interleave 160 ms

For 448Kbps Preload & Interleave 128 ms

i dont know why you all using those settings. you can use nandub and in the video meno go to framerate and choose change frame rate to match audio.
it is more acurate the the other.

Hi, I need help... I want to make a DivX with Dolby Digital audio, I interleave the video with the AC3 audio, but when I open the file, there's no sound. I executed the cmd file that came with virtualdub_ac3, but I can't figure out what's the problem. I'll apreciate any help. Thanks!

Have you installed all of the additional files from the "real" VirtualDub into the directory of the AC3 hack?

Yes, I've copied the ac3 version to the directory of the original virtualdub, and virtualdub appears to make its job, it doesn't give any error message. What I've noticed is that after selecting the audio file for the interleaving, the video in an video out previews are not available.

Does your .AC3 file have multiple tracks? If so, this could be the cause of your problem.

Hi, thanks for your answer. No, the AC3 file has only 1 stream. But I was using VirtualDub AC3, today I tried it with NanDub and it works perfectly, so I'll go with it. Thanks again.

On the same subject I currently have a two speaker setup at the moment but will be upgrading to a 5.1 setup in the future. Can you maintain the AC3 encoding and demux to 2 channel on-the-fly at playback or does it have to be demuxed at the encoding stage?

if you have a sblive5.1, it's simple, in the speakers applet select 2 speakers, and in advanced select decode dolby digital. When you switch to 5.1, change the speakers to 5.1, and if your amplifier has dolby digital decoding, disable de decoding in the soundcard. I have my soundcard connected via optical s/pdif to my amplifier that has dolby digital decoding.

hi can you tell me please how you create divx file with dolby digital sound i have flaskmpeg and virtualdub mode i think i will end up with larg file size because the AC3 audio file is or cannot compressed to smaller AC3 file so please can you help me on this one thank you
