Can you burn VCD to a DVD?

I'm not talking about converting or anything, is it possible to make a VCD using a DVD-R (via Nero or another program that uses DVD-Rs)? That would be perfect (almost) for all the DiVX/VCD releases I think. Has anyone tried this or knows if it's possible? Please reply ASAP, thank you.

The DVD player won't recognize the file format after it first recognizes the medium as DVD.
