subtitles on a vcd? [Archive] - Digital Video Forums

I know how to make a vcd from divx through TMPGEnc, but is there an option in it (or some other program that does the same) in which I can add subtitles on a vcd?

Not that can be turned on and off. If you add subs it would have to be part of the picture and they would be permanent.

very good, I doesn't matter if they can't be turned off, but how do I make it a part of the picture/video in the first place?
what program does that?

how come that when i convert 550mb avi to vcd it becomes over 1000mb. why? what do i have to do do make it for 1 CD or how can i seperate on 2 parts?

Regardless of its original file size, you can only fit about 70-90 minutes of video on a standard VCD. The only way to change this would be to lower the bitrate but by doing this it may not play in your DVD player.

So I never convert avi to VCD/SVCD .Instead I'd like to convert it to RM/RMVB which will be much thinner:)

RM/RMVB need some certain software such as REALONE player to play .

Well, to be honest, it will fit on one cd regardless of the 1000mb size but only in case of your movie being shorter than 80 min. It's because of the way the video cd itself is recorded, it removes some check grooves on a cd, and writes data instead. You have to use some burning program that supports vcd (or svcd) and burn it STRICTLY by selecting a vcd (not data cd, like when you record a divx type of cd)
If you want to burn a vcd in order to watch it on a stand alone dvd player, it has to be either shorter or equal to 80mins, or you have to splice it on to 2 parts. It (splitting) can be done with tmpegenc and if you want to add subtitles (permanently, if you add them, you can't remove them) use vobsub. There are some guides on how to do that, use search engine in this forum to find out how.
