Heya mates.

I sometimes get VERY LOW sound on some of my DVD ripz.

I use FlaskMpeg with Divx 4 2 Pass stuff. I learnt everything on nicks guide from digital digest.

For audio I compress MP3 96 Kbs. Maybe this is to low ?

Does anyone have any idea ?

Thanxs. Any help appreciated.

The sound on the most DVDs is very low. You will have to save the audio as a wav-file and increase the volume with a wav-editor. If u use nandub to combine audio and video you can use the simple volume-option to increase it manually.

I agree but once you have done all that, make the MP3 bitrate to 128 or 192. It will give you a better quality

NORMALIZING would be very important, tooooo!

take a look at my guide for details n normalizing and volume increasing (i'm using wavelab, but cooledit or any other tool will be just as good)

hey all
in flask you can go to the audio tab and choose normalize and add how much % u want to the flie.
i use 300 - 500 %. it depends on the movie.
and like my precessors said dont encode the sound in 96, do 128 - 192 or y dont u use dd ?

Just remember about Flask/XMpeg-

setting the Dynamic Range compression properly is almost more important than normalization. You can't just boost the normalization and expect everything to be fine. Dynamic range compression sets the range of the loudest sound to the quietest. If you haven't set it properly, you'll be turning up the volume for a scene with two people in a conversation, but when an explosion occurs you'll blow a speaker/eardrum! You want to set your slider so that ambient noise (papers swishing in the background, people's footsteps, etc.) is neither too high or low in comparison to loud sounds. Listen carefully. Does it sound REAL?

You can tell when someone has set the normalization too high without adequately compressing the dynamic range in a divx file, if the loud sounds sound distorted and 'un-real'.

For me (and remember, XMpeg has silent bugs everywhere that you might think are part of the program) I set my dynamic range compression to 1/4 to 1/5 of the way from the right, and normalize to 100% I have beautiful sounding rips. But remember again, the ease at which ripping a DVD happens has a lot to do with the manufacturer of that disc.
