Hey,
Still sussing out the ins and outs of dvd to divx to vcd. ripped all my vob files and created the psuedo avi in dvd2avi no probs.
When i do the compression test in gordianknot .26beta i keep gettin results ranging from like 4 - 7% in the box right of load (dvd2avi panel).

Now according to the guide i am following this figure should be 45 and 65. any greater and image hardly increases in quality and any less and it's not good enough.

So what is goin wrong??? thanks in advance

Kid Dynamite.

Don't run the comp test. I never do and it still comes out just make sure your

"bits/(Pixel*Frame)

Is around 40-55 and you should get a good quality movie

My bits/(pixel*frame) won't change! i can't get another reading for it in gknot without doing the comp test. the values there now look like this

0.016

LOAD -> 1.7 % of 0.887

I am using divx5 pro but in the log is says compression test divx4. you think this means anything???
Got any ideas? appreciate the help.

maybe you should update your gk version since you said it is 026

026 might have problems handling latest divx5 versions

You have to move the resolution bar to make the value change.

i guess is skipped an important part of your initial posting:

are your trying to create an MPEG1 file????

if so, why are you creating an avi first?

transcode from vobs to vcd/mpeg1 directly!

dvd2svcd might be an easy to use and still excellent way to go.
