View Full Version : jerky playback of old DIVX movies

I have a fair number of old DIVX movies (encoded with DIVX 4) which will not play correctly on the new versions of windvd or windows media player. In fact, the only player on which they work is an older DIVX alpha. The movies encoded with DIVX 5 work fine on all the players. Does anyone have a suggestion for settings on the new players to accommodate the older (DIVX 4) movies other than to recode all of them?

Thanks for any help.

Use FFDSHOW to playback your divx/xvid content. For a player, use BSPLAYER or WMP 6.4

I appreciate the help, batman, but to no avail. I installed ffdshow and bsplayer and the results were the same - jerky video and audio. To make matters worse, I had to copy the movie to my hard drive.

I cannot use WMP 6.4. I am running XP. It is not supported and will not install.

Maybe I missed something in ffdshow, but it was pretty straight forward.

Thanks again for trying.

Did you try typing mplayer2.exe in the "run" dialog box?

WMP 6.4 should be supported by XP.

Are these divx 4 movies your own encodes?

I tried your suggestions and even several different versions of wmp 64. None would install and if I tried through run, the file could not be found.

Some of the movies were my own encoding, others were not. It made no difference. If DIVX 4 was used, they will not play on the newer players.

Thanks again for your help.

Try changing the FOURCC code to "DIV3"...

Now I am really going to reveal my ignorance. What is FOURCC code and where do I find it? I looked in all the (to me) obvious places with no luck.

Thank you for your patience and assistance.
