Hey guys I'm new to the xvid scene and i was trying to play a video in xvid format. I downloaded all the correct codecs and tested it through gspot which said they were installed. However, when i try to play it through media player 6.4, it says the codecs are not installed and i only get the sound, no video. Could someone perhaps tell me what im doing wrong?

Thanks

1) Load the video file into VirtualDub (or one of its many variants) or NanDub

2) From the "File" dropdown menu, select "File Information"

3) Post (here) EVERYTHING you see (BOTH video and audio information), or post a screen capture .jpg of the information box

Well if your guys aren't going to do what setarip suggested and yes it would make it a lot easier for us to help try installing FFDShow

I did do what he asked but it doesnt work. When i try to open the file through Nandub it says cannot locate decompressor for format (Xvid).

Download the Xvid codec... Nic's or Koepi's versions are nice..

Or download FFDShow

You've probably downloaded a fake or corrupt video...

Well it cant be fake cuz i fast forwarded through the video and the sound is obviously from the movie and it cant be corrupted cuz ive checked everything to see whether its not. I know the problem is that my computer cant detect the codecs even though theyare installed.... God damn im pissed.... 9 hrs for nothing

So which is it - do you or don't you see the video?

Try opening it in VirtualDub (again)

And try to post the file information

Yeah Skd i tried it again and this is exactly what it says

" Couldn't locate decompressor for format 'Xvid' (unknown)
VirtualDub requires a video for Windows compatible codec to decompress video. DirectShow codecs, such as those used by Windows Media Player, are not suitable."

What does this mean and why is it coming up?

It means the Xvid codec is NOT installed. Try installing FFDshow

What capture software, video codec, and settings did you use to capture your home video?

I've experienced the same problem, and found a solution!

Your graphic card is likely set to 16 bit color. This will in my experience produce a black screen, with audio!

Change your graphic card to 32 bit color, and voila!!! Your video is now present, and can be enjoyed with some pop-corn and cola!

I had the same problem, but I was able to fix it. What I did was download the newest Xvid (doesn't matter who's) and then I downloaded Nimo 5.0 codecs. I preformed a custom install and only installed the AC3 filters (note: Did not install fdshow) and then everything worked great.
