How to playback subtitle's in a divx movie?

I really don't understand why i cannot play back any subtitle files. I have tried to play various subtitles, created by myself and downloaded by others to no avail. I have used the following players:

Bsplayer
MicroDVD player
Zoom player
Divxplayer

All which claim to have the ability to play subtitle files. Also i have tired the following file extensions:

.srt
.txt
.sub
.TTS
.mpl

Will someone tell me the secret to playback a subtitle file please?

i have direct vobsub installed and i'm using ffdshow subtitle option to play srt files.

Well i think i finally figured out my subtitle problem. As mentioned earlier i ripped my subtitles with subripper, however was unable to play them in any player ( i tried many) even after they were "converted" into different file extensions.

Turns out all you have to do is make sure your subtitle file has the identical name as your movie file. Once that is done all you do is open up your file in any player (inlcuding WMP 6.1) and your movie has subtitles!

I have not sat down and watched the full movie yet so i have not verified if they are in sync. Hopefully all is well. Had to reply to this thread since i was amazed that i could not find this simple answer in all the previous postings that i searched through!

I have loaded the movie along with subtitle file .sub with the same name with that of movie. But I could not play this movie with subtitle on Window Media PLayer series 9. Did I do anything wrong. I have Divxplayer 2.0 also. Could you show me how to watch movie with subtitle in detail. Thanks a lot
