Xvid to mpeg

Im having trouble converting an xvid file to mpeg. I have the xvid codec and the xvid files play perfectly on my media player. However when I try to use virtualdub or tmpge to convert an xvid file to avi or mpeg/vcd file it says that it cannot recognize the audio format. Ive also noticed that if u check the properties of an xvid file it says that the sudio format is unknown. So if anyone can help me, please help.

VirtualDub indicates that the audio is "Unknown (tag2000)", which is .AC3.

In TMPGEnc, under the "Environmental Settings" "VFAPI plugin" tab rightclick on the "Direct Show Multimedia Reader" and increase to the highest priority. This will enable TMPGEnc to accept a properly encoded .AVI with .AC3 audio for input...
