Video is fine, sound lagging

I am running a 1 Ghz intel pentium 3 and 512 ram. Video is running fine but the sound goes out of sync after a few seconds. The file is an MPEG file. Sound is lagging is there anything I can do? Thanks

since your computer really is fast enough to display mpeg videos correctly,

you should provide more information about the software that you use
to display it ( like software player mpeg decoder or codec and so) on.

it is hard to help you with so little information
