cannot burn on dvd

I have create all the vob files and ifo files, etc. the vob files add up to only 1.8 gb, but when I go to burn them on a dvd, using nero, I am told that my dvd does not have enough disk space. The dvd is blank and is a dvd+r,+rw, which is want my burner is.
Any idea on why and how to overcome it.

If it's a DVD+R/W, do a full (just to be sure) erase first...
