View Full Version : NEC ND-1300A : firmware/drivers/Nero ?

Hi,
I bought an NEC ND-1300 A (OEM)
Now, this doesnt come with anything .. no problem, I told myself. Installing the drive : no problem. Using the drive as a CD (or even DVD reader) : no problem.
Now, I wanted to use Nero (well, you buy a DVD burner for something, dont you) .. And Nero doesnt allow me .. He lists the drive, when choosing "Select recorde", but he lists my DVD as an "Image recorder", and also, all of the details below, are not filled in (except for Medium type, where he DOES spot the DVD mode).
What exactly do I have to do here ?
- Didnt install any drivers .. didnt find them on the net (!) .. and apparently , I dont need them ..
- Firmware : now, this is irritating me, it says (somewhere there is the 1.05 present on the drive, and on a lot sites, it is mentioned there IS an 1.06 firmware upgrade .. but not for OEM ...)
What do OEM owners do then ? Write their own firmware ? And also : the proof OEM is NOT the same as the other ones
Anyway: what is the f___ing firmware actually ? DVD his own BIOS software ?

What operating system are you using?
Loner
17 Aug 2003, 08:00 PM
w98, and nero is 5.5
Oriphus
17 Aug 2003, 10:01 PM
What version of Nero is it. 5.5.10.42 is the latest of teh 5.5 range. Are you up-to-date on it?
Loner
17 Aug 2003, 10:20 PM
no, its 5.5.3.5 only
no update done on that yet, will that make any diff ?
Oriphus

It will actually, that version doesnt really support DVD Writing. You should upgrade to the 5.5.10.42, it will probably be free.

Hi,
Thanks for the info ... I will check if I can get the upgrade !

No probs, get back to us if you still have problems with the new update installed :-)

Well .. I downloaded the update from the site, no problem. My DVD drive now is listed in the Recorder list (now have an "Image Recorder", my Plextor cdr and my NEC DVD) .
But ... I cannot select the NEC, cause he says : "this Nero supports Plextor recorders only"
damn

Thats strange, im not a big fan of Nero for DVD writing anyway. I prefer to use Record Now Deluxe. You can download a free trial of the software from this address:

"this Nero supports Plextor recorders only"
You may be required to:
1) Uninstall NERO - and reboot your computer
2) Re-install your OLDER version of NERO
3) Install the v.5.5.10.42 update

Nope, that didnt change. He still doesnt like my NEC, while not having any problems with my Plextor. Its a legal thing I guess .. I guess my software is hacked to make it work with Plextor only ..
Well, it only takes time to hack that ..
I'm gonna try Reord Now ..

"I guess my software is hacked to make it work with Plextor only .."
If you're saying that the NERO on your system isn't a purchased version then perhaps you've "gotten what you paid for"...

Its purchased with my Plextor CD recorder .. Seems like they gave me an inferiour version, without mentioning it.
Well, they DID give it for free, but still ..

"Its purchased with my Plextor CD recorder"
So why the references to it being "hacked" and "Well, it only takes time to hack that .."???
Loner
19 Aug 2003, 05:02 AM
Cause I may not be the first to have this "problem".

"Cause I may not be the first to have this 'problem'"
I don't know what this has to do with referring to "hacking" NERO, but it's not important.
If you're now purchasing a burning program, I'm sure it will resolve your problem...

Well, isnt it odd ? Nero creates software that only works with certain brands .. Says in the readme as well .. I am the owner of the exclusive piece of sotware called "Nero Burning Rom Plextor" !
Apparently, you need the serial key of a retail version, to have this "feauture" removed. No idea what I am gonna do next.
But you are correct, the problem would also be removed, after buying the software. Only make sure it reads : "works with all brands".
Bizar strategy .. so, if I would have a DVD burner, the same brand, there would be no problem ?!

"But you are correct, the problem would also be removed, after buying the software. Only make sure it reads : 'works with all brands'. "
Rest assured, if you purchase NERO, that version will not be limited to one brand of DVD burner...
Loner

Indeed, but dont forget I HAVE a legal version of Nero, which has been deliberately altered to make it not work with other brands.
Weird, suddenly it doesnt work with Plextor, how did that happen ?

"Weird, suddenly it doesnt work with Plextor, how did that happen ?"
Probably the result of applying the upgrade to your "limited edition" version. Uninstall the upgraded version, reboot, then install your ORIGINAL "limited edition" version...

Yes captain.
But then, I cannot use my Plextor. What a shame, after spending so much $$$.
But - and do go tell anybody - I am working on a VERY ORIGINAL version .. ssssst

OEM versions of Nero sometimes will only work on the drives they were bundled with.
For a small fee ($15.00, I think) you can get a serial number upgrade to plug into your present Nero package that will enable it for everything supported.

I'm having the exact same problem as originally posted. I've been trouble shooting for weeks. I have the ND 1300A. I can't burn DVDs. I've been trying trial versions of software before I select one to buy.
I thought it was the firware, but I can't find one to install as described above.
Was the conclusion that the software had to be purchased, then it will work with my DVD writer?
Please help.

No, there's nothing wrong, you got a so called "OEM" version
with your Plextor drive, that only will work with Plextor drives,
Every manufactor does the same thing, so, if you want two
different brands burners to function on one pc*, you have to buy
the retail version in the store, or download the demo version,
and register it, be sure to remove everything of the previous
Nero install.
*maybe logging in as a different user helps...

Upgrading a NEC drive's firmware is still done in DOS mode ?
check if you gave the right line commands, for host, master
or slave... and previous fw upgrade was a "legal" one ?
when you figured out which are the right commands for your
IDE configuration, it's best to make a DOS/win9x boot floppy,
with the commands in a .BAT file/script, there must be no
config.sys file on that floppy, only made bootable that floppy,
and the .bin .exe and .bat's on...

aah OEM software... 'tis crap. I skipped installing the copy of Roxio that came with my ND-1300a and went straight to nero 6. I thought I was having problems, but it turns out either
a) 1.06 firmware sucked
or
b) the drive was shipped broken
because upon excanging the drive at my retailer, the drive burned fine.
I just have one wierd point... The drive I returned was a black faceplate model, MFR'ed in december 2003, shipping with 1.06 firmware. The drive I got in exchange (beige faceplate) was MFR'ed in November 2003, and shipped with 1.08 firmware (not the hacked one, altho I never trusted that store's techs much).
Am I on crack, or does shipping new drives with ancient bunk firmware make it seem to anyone other than me like someone over at NEC was smoking crack the day the drives were made?

Yes, your OEM software is simply locked to only work with Plextor.
I don't like this sort of thing and think it is unreasonable because the price of the software is included in the retail price of the package (even though they say it is free) and should therefore work with any burner.
Normally I don't do this, but seeing as you legally own this software all you need to do is change the serial key to a full version.
You can find this key on google. Just do a search for it using the name Nero and the version number.

No. because then, with each new upgrade you need a new
serial number, with a legal one you don't need a new serial number with each new upgrade.

Just what are you talking about? Have you read any of the previous thread? Do you even know what you are refering to?
Once you have entered a full serial (yes like the one that Nero will give you when you legally purchase a full version of Nero) the program will then be unlimited and therefore any future upgrades with same version number will be accepted and will NOT require a new key.

Okay, but as far as i know, there are still no Nero 6.x OEM
versions, or are there ? the nice "thing" of a OEM version is,
you never have to type your serial in when installing, or
upgrading.....
Upgrading from 5 to 6 needs a new serial....

Sorry for my english ,I am french speaking
Hello
My problem is as follows:
I was in possession of Nero 5.5 OEM and I had bought module MPEG to be able to encode the SVCD and DVD.
My configuration was: PC AMD2000, Chipset NvidiaK7,512Mb SDRAM, W98SE, DVD NEC1300A, HD 80Gb
I created several DVD and SVCD without problems of reading on my DVD of living room.
Since the beginning of January I have a new PC Configuration: PC INTEL 2.6, chipset Intel865, Dual memory channel, Hyperthreading, 1024 MB GDR, XP PRO, DVD NEC1300A, HD 80+120Mb.
When I create a DVD or SVCD,the conversion and engraving normally carries out with the message "engraving succeeded". But no engraved disc is readable on my dvd of salon.(on the NEC no problem).
However I use the same engraver and the same DVD blanco.
I tested with all them, kinds of DVD(+, +RW, -, -RW).
What must I do?
Pass by again to the 5.5 and to test?
thank you

Polo, Did you have to install Nero for the second time on your
new hardware setup ? check for prefferences in Nero,
You can't choose the ISO/UDF ROM option like in Nero 5.x,
you must choose the "VIDEO" option in Nero 6.x and drag your
vob and ifo files into the left video_ts folder...
if you already did this, try to remember which "default" settings
you changed in past or present..
Fug.

The only thing i can think of is, that you're using DVD ROM,
instead of DVD VIDEO, that's the main change between 5.x
and 6.x , de-install Nero complete, and re-install.
you don't have any other burn packages installed ?
You also installed MS XP upgrade #1 ?
