Possible to put subs back on a dvd ? (noobish question)

I am getting a dvd US verion from a friend as a present.
And i got the subs for the movie - in .srt format to use for some kind of avi rip or something.

Is it possible in anyway to put subs INTO a dvd - i know you can rip them - but how about putting them back in ?
