ATM I'm using the aforementioned drive... recently replacing a disaster AOpen piece of cak.

Its a really nice drive, its quiet and stable and really surprisingly fast.
But as some of you probably know NOT region free!! DOh!

Is anyone in the process of patching the firmware?

Please Please do. If I knew how I'd do it myself.

I was watching a region 1 'Billy Madison' last night and I want more.

For the love of Adam Sandler please!

I've been on for a week reading how to make my drive region free and I now have it!

Very easy, but dangerous. READ WELL this before
The Firmware Flashing FAQ/HOWTO you find at this address:
http://digilander.iol.it/pioneerdvd/Firmware_FAQ.html

And watch that u use the original firmware patch for you specific drive: this iv very important if you don't want to destroy your hardware.

And the last important thing to remember is to boot before flashing.

Read well all you have to read before flashing: it's important

Cheers Nez

A guy said to me he'd patch the bios if he knew what microprocessor the drive uses (its written on the chips surface or something).

Does anyone want to open up there drive and check? Or does anyone know off-hand?

I have so little time these days... DOH
