playback in windows media player

i had some problems with my xvid codec so i uninstalled and reinstalled it. however, now whenever i try opening any xvid files, i get a big error message and windows media player shuts down with the following information in the error message:

any clues on what I can do?

You have a corrupted morgan stream switcher.Try un-installing all the codecs/CodecPacks and re-install all after re-boot.

I would also recommend you try better players. WMP 6.4 (mplayer2.exe) & BSPlayer are highly recommended players.
