View Full Version : Problem playing video files

A while back I must've done something that totally messed up video playback on my pc. I don't know what caused it, but when I played a video file (any format, except .mov and .rm) the image was flickering. The sound was normal, but the video was like, picture, black, picture, black etc. realy fast, flickering.
I tried just about everything I could think of. I installed tons of different codecs and filters, but in the end the only video files I could successfully play were .mpg files. The other formats still have the flickering problem.
At this point I'm all out of idea's. I tried several suggestions I found on several forums, but none worked. I even re-installed DirectX and updated the drivers for my graphics card, but that turned up empty too.
Just a minute ago I downloaded Nandub, and loaded an avi file. To my suprise the file actually played normally. But now I'm even more confused, since every other media player failed (BSPlayer, WMP and even PowerDVD)
Here's 3 links to my GSpot codec information, and the file information from Nandub.

If anyone might have an solution, please tell me, cause I'm fresh out of idea's.

3ivx as decompressor?

i'd rather go for ffdshow
install the latest alpha from may 2003

At first I did try ffdshow, but since that didn't work, I finaly installed a bunch of codec packs, with which 3ivx was included.
And besides, back when I was able to play video files just fine, I used 3ivx for a short time, and it worked fine back then.

did you try the latest ffdshow version?

Yes I did, in fact, I reconfigured 3ivx/ffdshow so that ffdshow is the default decompressor just now. But as I suspected, that didn't do any good.
What I don't get is why files will play just fine in Nandub, but they won't in BSPlayer or any other video player. What is the difference between Nandub and other players? Does Nandub use a build in custom filter? I realy don't know. Maybe someone else? Anyone?

don't you have problem playing divx files? I just saw you've installed both 4.12 and 5.05.

It's not just divx files, its all formats, all except .mov, .rm and most .mpg files. The flickering is there when I play DivX files, but also XviD, .asf and .wmv files.
