Problems re-encoding audio

After saving movie and audio separately through VirtualDub I'm ready to re-encode audio but unfortunately following error popped up, choosing compression.

An out-of-bounds memory access (access violation) occurred in module 'lameACM'...
...while enumerating formats for audio codec "LAME MP3 Codec v0.9.0 - 3.93 (stable)" (acompchoose.cpp:188)...
...while enumerating audio codec ID 001492e8 (acompchoose.cpp:183).

Someone any idea?

Have you tried extracting the audio (via Direct Stream Copy) and re-compressing with an external compressor (RazorLAME or many other commercially available player+compressor combo)?
