View Full Version : Quick clipping of DivX file in Vdub?

I have a DivX file (encoded with the Div3 low motion codec:( ) which has a lot of 'flickering' on the top edge (about 4 pixels thick).

I wanted to quickly eliminate it and thought of either the 'Fill' filter in VirtualDub or using 'Null Transform' to clip it. I'd rather do the 1st because clipping it means a potentially incompatible size with the latest DivX codecs.

Is there a way to quickly do this without re-compressing it in Full Processing Mode?

Apart from the fact that it takes a long time to do, the only way I've found to get the same quality file, is to set the parameters to a slightly higher bitrate than the original, meaning the file is also bigger...

Any help will be appreciated...:)

I really don't see a problem with using the cropping option. Because even though you have to raise the bitrate when re-encoding, because the resolution will be smaller (video dimensions) -- the filesize should balance out, or be near the original filesize.

I've done this a lot when there are lots of flickering on the edges, since resolution is one of the factors on how big your file will be.

You have to re-compress it. There is no other way 'round.

Re-compress with 2-pass encoding mode so that you can minimise any loss in quality.

I was afraid you'd say that. There goes another 8 hours... *sigh*:(

But thanks for clearing that up for me.
