Hi, does anyone know to play .srt subtitles with windows media player? I tried looking around but couldn't find any info on it. Any help will be greatly appreciated. :) Thanks.

make sure the srt file has the same name as your video file:

movie.srt
movie.avi

Thanks for all your help. I installed vobsub and it displays the subtitles now. It displays double subtitles though... I don't think there's anyway to remove that is there? It displays one set on the movie itself and one in the black area below the movie in widescreen format. Anyhow, thatnks for your help UncasMS and BoF. :)

What if you want more that one subtitle stream?

Also, I have gotten SRT subtitles to work in Windows Media Player 9 with them named differently than the movie. But they won't work in Core Media Player at all.

i prefer to mux srt subtitles into an ogm container, which allows multiple subs

@ hellkite

concerning your doubled subs

did you try another player like zoomplayer, bsplayer or media player classic (not to be confused with windows media player!)?

zoomplayer for example should be able to play subs WITHOUT an additional installation of vobsub since it comes with ds filters for this purpose

i'm using ffdshow as playback filter and have subtile playback ticked in ffdshow

it looks like player AND vobsub seem to load the subs in your case

Yeah, I don't know what the deal is. I have DirectVobSub installed, which is what makes WMP9 work. Do I need ffdshow for TCMP (The Core Media Player)?

Brought this thread back to life because i wanted to know if there are any new players ie Bsplayer, Divx etc that recognise and play the srt files. Im just getting into Divx and Xvid encoding now, so any help would be cool.

Hey~
I just need to know, are there any possibilities to play .wmv along with .srt file?Because i downloaded a file called "Subtitle Workshop", and the .srt file can only be played using that software, not WMP. I've tried Vobsub, but it only worked using Subtitle Workshop too.

Anyone? Enlighten me please~

@disco: download & install "vobsub", and your srt files should play with any media player, as long as both the video and subtitle/s have the same file name :)

Dude:

I just registered on this forum to answer your question since I installed vobsub and also got double displays. You simply have to turn of the option of Automatically Detect Subtitles in the PLAY menu of the WMP and with that you will eliminate the ones that apear on the black area below the movie.
