vcd format to dvd

Does anyone know if it is possible to write mpg 1 files to a dvd that would allow you create a large vcd. Vcd quality and size that would allow about 9 400mb mpeg to be written but keep the playability of a vcd?

I tried it on a dvd+rw but it wouldnt play in any dvd player. except for 1 at Circuit city for $499.99 Their is no software to my knowledge to allow you to record in vcd format to a DVD it will all ways convert it to MPEG2. However if you record the vcd and all sub folders to you HD and record those form your HD to your dvdrw as data using NERO then it will record it as data in a VCD format ... But good luck cause u will not find a DVD player to play them except the one in your cpu....... HAVE FUN>>>>>:confused:
