Avi files not playing

Windoes Media Player 9 does not play my avi files.Even when I installed DivX Codec 3d release.Only my Divx player play avi files.Whenever I right click on the avi file,click properties then click preview I could see and hear the whole entire video.But whenever I try to play my avi files with my WMP 9.I get this message "Windows Media Player cannot play the file".I also set my player to support this format.How do I fix this?

Use good ol' reliable Windows Media Player v.6.4 instead. You can install it as follows:

Desktop>>Start>>Run then type MPLAYER2.EXE (then reboot)

Windows Media Player 9 play my avi files before but I don't know what happen.I don't think is the version I'm using.Avi files use codec DIVXMPG4 V3
