I am not new to the DivX world, but i am rather new to converting DivX to VideoCD. I have many divx movies, each on one cd, and i wanted to convert them to a format that uses a single cd and can be played in a standalone DVD/VCD player. Having 2 CD's for every movie is a pain the (you know). I have a CD-Burner but no DVD burner so that is already an eliminated option. Any suggestions/directions? Thanks.

If, as you stated, you want to be able to play the videos on a standalone player (and you're not in a position to burn DVDs), I'm afraid you'll have to resign yourself (not really a big deal) to two CD-Rs per VCD and two to four for SVCDs...

What type of media should i use for my VCDs? I heard most all standalone DVD players support CD-RW but not CD-R.

Check this site for info specific to your brand/model standalone player:

yeah, I just started converting my 100 or so DiVX3s to SVCD and VCD. TMPGenc is great. I found that I can get most DiVX movies of 83 min or less into a decent VCD (like Shrek). Got Tomb Raider into 2 SVCDs at 100 min.
Also another great prog is DVDx 1.7 Converts your IFO and VOBs directly to mpegII ready for burning as SVCD and autosplits them at whatever size you want. Nearly a one step process now just gotta vobdec the files first and you DEFINITELY need the IFO. Otherwise youre relegated to mpeg mediator or flask.

Just getting back to the number of CD's per movies, you may want to check if your burner and stand-alone DVD player will support 90 and 99 minute discs. I just bought a new burner and it does which is great cause i save allot on discs by just using 1 rather than 2 discs. :)
Cheers
