View Full Version : What's needed for encoding an image sequence to AVI?

I need to know what program(s) can convert an image sequence to an AVI. The images themselves can be Targa, BMP, TIFF or any image type that does not throw away image data (like JPEG). I don't care if the program is free or not, I just require it to be simple (i.e. more like Gordian Knot and less like Adobe Premier). I would prefer to save the AVI in an uncompressed format, but I can go ahead and encode it using DivX (or XviD) at this point. FYI, I am not concerned with how many steps are needed to achieve this since I have a dedicated computer for movie processing, but the fewer the better.
Thanks for any assistance!
P.S. - I have already looked at something called the AVI Constructor and it blew, so something different would be nice.

Thanks for the link. I have downloaded it but, only knowing English, I am having quite a difficult time with it. SYSTRAN (Babelfish) doesn't quite seem to get the gist of it right in the translation.
Are there additional programs, or is there an English explanation somewhere for the features in BMP to AVI?
Thanks again for any assistance.

You can also use VDubMod or maybe AviSynth with its ImageReader plugin... ;)

VideoMach turned out to be the better option so far. Fancy Movie Editor, though good, was not what I needed.

I had heard that AviSynth could do it, but I did not know it required a plugin. I will check it out. As for VDubMod, is that different than VirtualDubMod? If not, how can I do it in that (I thought image sequences were output only)? VirtualDubMod is the main program I use to produce the image sequences and process .AVIs.
Thanks for the help so far!

Thanks for the help so far! Hehe, VDubMod or VDM is "short written" VirtualDubMod... :D
And yes, simply name your images as -> blah001.bmp, blah002.bmp, blah003.bmp etc. !!!
Then open the first one and all others will be loaded automatically in thus order... ;)

expand your audio track and see if there are any wave forms. and make sure the track is not muted.
and if you're talking about the "monitor" in premiere, or effects window, then sound doesn't play in that window. only when you play from the preview window.
here's a screen shot (http://mysite.verizon.net/res71imq/prempro1.jpg)
if you're not getting sound when you play from the window on the right, then you have a problem.
as for the OP, try Virtualdub for your image sequences. while it's similar to Vdubmod, of course, you simply have a few more options when dealing with audio in plain jane Vdub.
and Videomach, if i recall correctly, does not create open-dml compliant videos, so if you want to maintain high quality and work uncompressed, Videomach will corrupt files over 4gb.

Which is why I addressed him first.
But thanks for pointing that out. I guess I'll edit my message so anyone who does a search and comes across this thread, like I did, won't be able to get any extra information because the original question was too old.
