Newbie DivX to DVD

I'm sorry if this is covered in other posts, but I couldn't find the info in the faq. I want to convert DivX movies to DVD-R. What program can I use to join the multiple DivX files and then encode as DVD compliant files?

I am hoping that there is freeware/shareware utilities available for doing this, as I can't afford to pay a couple of hundred quid on software.

Any suggestions gratefully received.

joining avis can be done with virtualdubMOD

converting avis to svcd/dvd resolution (dvd resolution is senseless - go for svcd-res) can be done with dvd2svcd

afterwards you can author these svcd files to a dvd with dvd-lab
