avi to dvd (need help!)

hi

ive just started downloading movies and everything is fine until i come to trying to convert the file to a format that i can use on my home dvd. The problem is that i havent got a clue what to do, and also that im using a mac which i am finding hard to get inormation about. can anyone tell what the best software (if there is any) is to use in order to convert avi. , mov, etc to a format i can write to dvd or cd?

Any help would be seriously appreciated
