ive ripped a dvd into the mpeg2 format but the vobs are a gig a piece is there a tool that i can convert mpeg2 into a smaller size or into a diff format that will make it smaller..if so will i be able to play this movie with win dvd still?

Well, you can convert them into DivX or any other format, but if I'm not mistaken you won't be able to use a DVD player to play 'em back, but the compression will definitely cause a loss of file quality. That said however you can get near-DVD quality using DivX at, erm, perhaps a gig and a half per 2-hour movie instead of the typical 6 or 7 gigs of raw VOB data ...

you can transform vobs into mepg1/vcd or better mpeg2/svcd

tmpeg is quite good, dvd2svcd eben better!

tx lads for the help..and tx uncas for that useful information u gave me about looking in the text file to see what speech was loading i sorted that out and now my movie plays fine tx alot...sean
