i'm trying to play an xvid movie and the video works fine but not the audio. i have the latest divx codec and some old xvid codec but i need an audio codec, i just don't know what.
i used to have a bunch of audio codecs before i formated my computer and alot of them came with annoying audio setup menu's that replaced ones i already had for WMP9 so if you have simple ones that don't do this that'd be great, thanks in advance.

Open the movie in GSpot and find out what codec you need. It's probably AC3.

Use Gspot or Avicodec (my favorite). Get either one here in the tools section www.dvdrhelp.com

Everyone should learn how to use a search engine.
I said try Gspot. Google it. There's approximately 30,900 pages that reference "gspot download". (and they're not all pron either).
The very first link is for the homepage.
Avicodec is also very good, but more confusing for a noob.
FYI, dvdrhelp is now www.videohelp.com although the older (remember vcdhelp.com?) domains still work.

Ah! thanks for that! I swore I put in 'dvdrhelp' the other day. When it came up videohelp I thought I was cracking up!
