video/audio sync problem

The audio is playing earlier than the video for the whole length of the movie. I've tried to fix it with VD (adjusting the framerate, etc...), but the movie plays with no problems in the editor so I don't know how to fix it so it plays fine in WMP/BS player, etc....

How do I fix this?

Try converting the audio to 2 channel .MP3 stereo at 44,100Hz...

I converted the audio to 96kbps/44100 Hz Stereo and it did not help. The video playback is quirky every few seconds on WMP though while the audio plays smoothly. This is probably how the audio got ahead of the video. What's causing the choppy video playback?
