subtitles wont appear on player!!help!

Hi
I have an Xvid avi movie. It comes with .sub and .idx files along with it. The .sub and .idx files are named exactly like the avi movie. I play the movie on BSplayer and Windows Media Player but the subtitles won't show up. Can anyone help me? Thanks :confused:
