When I go to encode to avi it appears to hang, but I'm not sure if it's actually working because it creates the folders folders with some large files in them. This is what it looks like. Any suggestions?
edit: THis program was working just fine with me until the 30 day trial ran out. Once I got the plus version it started doing this.

"When I go to encode to avi it appears to hang"
Load the original AVI file in "VirtualDubMod". Go to "File" > "File Information" and post everything listed in both the video and audio sections of the dialog box, or post a screen capture of the information.

The audio stream in the file is ac3 and was encoded with the XivD Mpeg 4 codec. Are you able to play the file successfully from your computer with no problems?

The audio is quiet but it plays just fine. I followed the guide to combine two avi's posted in the "beginners start here". I wonder if I messed it up doing that :x

In order to convert the AVI to mpeg-2 with TMPGEnc, try the following:
In TMPGEnc, under the "Environmental Settings" "VFAPI plugin" tab rightclick on the "Direct Show Multimedia Reader" and increase to the highest priority or one or two positions below the highest priority. This will allow TMPGEnc to open a properly encoded AVI file with AC3 audio.

Yeah I have done that already, but it still hangs once you start the encoding process :(

Then it probably has something to do with the procedure in which you combined the two AVI files. Have you attempted to load them "Individually" into TMPGEnc?

No sir, after I combined them I deleted the individual files so I guess I'll never know now :( I followed that posted procedure exactly so I really hope that isn't what messed up this video.

The only other thing I can suggest is to load the "Combined" AVI file into a program called "AVS Video Converter" and hope it will accept it for conversion to mpeg-2.

Ok I'll try that, thank you ormonde. Can you tell me how to properly combine avi's usually virtualDub so that I don't screw up more videos in the future?

Where the hell did you get that theme from. The task bar doesn't look like anything from windows??? I just thought maybe you were running something like linux or something other than windows.
