How to make a fast dvd rip to avi

Ive been trying for sometime now to rip a dvd, but cant seem to do it well. either the audio or fiel size never seems to be right. i was wondering waht was the best software to make a divx or xvid fill quick with ac3 audio. Ive tryed a few different programs but they never seem to work.

Making a Divx from a DVD is not terribly easy. At best it takes 2 or 3 time consuming steps.
