What's that green crap on my video?!

Hello,

I'm encoding some XVid AVI files to DVD complient files with TMPGEnc Plus, however it seems no matter what the setting, the output creates this green-coloured pixels all over the video. (see attached JPG file for screenshot).

Are there any settings I can use to overcome this?

Open the original XviD file(s) in "VirtualDubMod" ("File" > "Open Video File"). Then go to "File" > "File Information" and post everything that is listed in both the video and audio sections of the dialog box, or post a screenshot of the information.

Do you have a trial version of TMPGEnc Plus, or is it a full "Paid" version? Also, are you using the DVD (NTSC or PAL) template from the "Project Wizard ("File" > "Project Wizard") before the encoding process?

Make sure you have BOTH an XviD codec and the FFDShow filter installed on your system...

Yes, it is the registered version.

I am using PAL DVD template (standard), however I have used NTSC and the same thing happens.

have since installed FFdShow on as well as Xvid codec, but some problem occurs :(

Most likely the file is corrupt.

hmm... that seems unlikely. The Xvids are a 32-episode Tv series from two different sources (that is, two different users who have ripped the video from TV), and all of them do the same thing.

I could understand if it were 1 or 2 of the files, or even if it were all coming from the same person (and thus the same person's crappy encoder), but for all 32...

plus the videos play fine before encoding; the green distortion only happens after re-encoding.

As an experiment, since you appear to be having problems with TMPGEnc Plus, try a program called "AVSVideoConverter" to convert the XviD file(s) to DVD compliant mpeg-2. See if the same thing occurs.

you are my hero ormonde! AVSVideoConverter worked with no green slime!

obviously TMPGEnc wasn't encoding properly.

I've never heard of AVSVideoConverter before - neat little app.

Would be nice to figure out the correct settings for TMPGEnc, but I'm very happy with AVS. it's very simple, which I like. The output quality probably isn't as good as it could be with a more customizable app, but I don't really mind seeing as the Xvids aren't the greatest quality in the first place.
