divx xvid difference??

I have some avi's and before I only could hear the sound, then I downloaded the divx codec and everything works perfectly.
I downloaded Gspot to determine the codec that was using, and it said xvid for all of them. Here is my question now-

I want to get a Philips Progressive Scan DVD Player With DivX Playback, DVP642, but will it be able to play the avi's? When an avi is encoded with divx...does it say divx for the codec?

Simply do a Googlesearch for, and read the specs and/or documentation to determine if it is capable of playing XviD-compressed .AVIs...

I have the Philips dvp642 and so far it has played all of my divx and xvid avi's. I also played a WMV file on it without any problems.
