ANyone know anything about Full disc back up on dual layer DVD?

Hello,

I recently bought an NEC dual layer DVD burner and when i try to make a full backup of a film that requires dual layer it doesnt work. Ive tried everythin like selecting the right preferences in dvd shrink (edit>preferences> then highlighting the drop sdown menu to dvd9 8.5gb) DVD shrink works fine it encodes the dvd so i can make a full back up on a dual layer disk but its when i start to burn the file it doesnt work. ive updated nero so it recognises dual layer burning. i think im doing everythin right but i cant be!! Please help!! Thankyou

I have never done a DL-burning. One thing you could try out is to use DVD Decrypter for burning the DVD. If you want to know how - look at this thread (you need to register in the forum) http://forum.dvddecrypter.com/index.php?showtopic=11583

Cheers for the reply. Now ive tried using dvd decrypter the way you said to and it reads fine but when it goes to butn all i get is

You are using a rather old firmware for your burner 2.16 - the latest is 2.18. http://www.de.nec.de/softwareoverview2.php/id/557

Don't know which brand of discs you are using - the only one recommended by Nec is Verbatim - http://www.de.nec.de/software/1677_Media_List_for_16x_DVD_Writer_(DVT).pdf

If you want to deal with another brand (Ritek) I think you should go for a hacked firmware. There is a lot of dicsussions about burning DL in a forum such as: http://forum.rpc1.org/index.php?sid=7063e7a9dec00204b3e698fc78251984

cool thanks alot i updated the firmware and it looks to be ok now its burning away fine. Just need to wait and see if it finishes!! Thaks again and if i've anymore probs i'll let you know.
